Over the past year, families across the country faced their worst financial situations as the job market hit an all-time low. This caused 2020 to be known as the year millions of people had their credit ruined.
If you were caught in this whirlwind, I understand. It's a nightmare to have your life change so drastically due to something completely out of your control. And bad credit only makes it harder.
We were never taught how to fix it, raise it, or even keep it healthy.
The truth is, most people have never had the opportunity to learn how to:
✅ Pay off debts
✅ Save for retirement
✅ Buy their dream car or house
✅ Build up emergency funds
Two out of three adults can't even pass a basic financial literacy test, so we get buried further into debt. Then we panic. I say that because I've been there.
Having sub-550 credit makes it impossible to open a simple store card. Don't even get me started on the insane interest rates on a mortgage, which I would never get approved for.
The worst part is, if this isn't fixed ASAP, bad credit can put you on a slippery slope that could leave you jobless, carless, and even homeless.
This isn't meant to scare you. I paint this picture because I was this close to falling down that slope, even though I was doing everything "right."
Everyone says to "live below your means," so that's what I did. I started spending less and saving more, but my life was not fun.
